Why does Link4Growth matter to me…

There is a saying, ‘people don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it’, so that got me reflecting about why am I so passionate about Link4Growth.

I’ve had a long long relationship with the word “Fairness”. Being fair to me means that we consider the outcome collectively so that everyone can agree with it. It might not be that everyone gets everything they wanted but it is the choice that is ‘most’ fair to all.

How does that relate to Link4Growth though I hear you ask?

It might not have passed you by that we do not live in a very “Fair” world. Actually we live a very unfair and unbalanced world with great inequality and yet no human upon birth deserves any more or less than any other. So how can we be part of restoring some semblance of fairness and balance?

It’s a huge task… and we can’t achieve it by doing the same old same old things.

To change… we must first experience / identify things that aren’t working, then ask ourselves what might we want instead, then discuss how that could be achieved, then…  take action.

What if we spoke with each other, had conversations, began to bounce ideas around, imagined what things could be like if we did things a little differently? What if we let our minds loose?

Opening our minds to new possibilities is not just good for ourselves, but for our businesses, our villages, towns, cities, even the country. A space to think about what we want, to find like minds, to collaborate and then to take action… There is something for all of us out there… and a lot needs doing. This is what is so exciting… we can do whatever we want really… we don’t need permission (as long as it is legal) … so what are we waiting for?

This is the foundation upon which Link4Growth was based, providing a space to meet, talk, listen, learn, connect, share and inspire. To provide a platform upon which we could foster discussion and encourage ourselves through conversation to believe we can co-create a different kind of future. One that works for us all not just a few. What has changed in 7 years? … absolutely nothing, this is more necessary than ever before.

But I think the most exciting thing about Link4Growth is that it enables us to talk about what is happening right now and hear different perspectives. Link4Growth provides spaces that are non judgemental and where people are free from the pressure to meet the needs or expectations of others; where we can be ourselves and explore ideas without fear; to be heard.

After 7 years Link4Growth has gone through many changes but the core principles that underpin the organisation are the same as they were at the start. We are at an exciting time in history, so much is becoming volatile… perhaps now is our chance to bring “fairness” back to the table.

Chris is passionate about community and has been involved with Link4Growth and community building since the start in 2012. Chris now devotes most of his time to facilitate connection, collaboration and community in the district of South West Herts as well as supporting the Link4Growth Association.
