The Link4Growth Association is one year old today!

May 1st marks the first anniversary of the Link4Growth transition to an Association. The journey began back in October 2015 when the thought first emerged.

Since then the commitment to create the Association was announced at the Link4Growth conference back in January 2016, with the intent to complete the transition by the end of 2016.

Although it seems a simple process just changing an organisational structure it was far more complex than first thought. An association has a very different feel. Effectively there is no chain of command, so what happens needs to comply with a set of behavioural standards as opposed to a small team ‘managing’ what goes on. Consequently it took until May 1st 2017 that the Association was finally born.

What were the main thoughts behind creating the Association ?

  1. Link4Growth is an organisation that is being created to serve the people, so it stands to reason that it should be owned by the people

  2. Flexibility. Link4Growth doesn’t have a set of rules that people must comply with. Community is different in every part of the country, because we are all different so it can never be one size fits all

  3. Link4Growth encourages people to grow… there is no judgement, and is a space where people can unfold themselves and find what works for them

  4. As a leaderless organisation there is comfort in that the organisation will continue in develop in the same (or an enhanced) direction.

  5. The organisation has an infinite lifespan. It’s future is not determined by rules associated with running a business or a charity, nor is it dependent on the whim of a government (or change of government) or a small board of directors

  6. Link4Growth is not at the mercy of grants, funding or the desires of paymasters that control most aspects of our society. It is self funding by us, the people.

  7. Link4growth provides an opportunity to bring together those who would like to see a different kind of society than what we have, and a platform to link us all up and grow our ideas

Link4Growth has now completed its first year as an Association. It has meant rewriting a lot of the websites, a change in the branding and the message of what it does. This work is now almost complete… but ‘getting used to’ the new entity has been a lot more challenging than a name change.

The Link4Growth Association is probably only now, ready to really expand and grow… and the great thing is… that in the 7 years we have been practicing Link4Growth there is now a wealth of experience to access for those wishing to take the above ideas into their communities.

Chris is passionate about community and has been involved with Link4Growth and community building since the start in 2012. Chris now devotes most of his time to facilitate connection, collaboration and community in the district of South West Herts as well as supporting the Link4Growth Association.
