I am right, you are wrong!

Before Christmas, one of our members received this message instead of a Christmas card.
We go through our lives building up our own “Perception” of what is right and what isn’t. We form views about everything… our beliefs, our truths, and these form the fundamentals of what we value and where we sit amongst our friends and indeed society.
Some hugely important words I took on a while back which have stuck with me are : “your view, perception, opinion, map….. is not the territory”. It is just how you choose to see it… Another example I heard only today, if you ask two friends attending a party, how was the party? You might get such differing accounts as to question whether it was the same party at all.
Today in this uncertain and divisive world, polar opposites are broadcast everywhere, news, papers, TV, Radio, Social media… We tend to look for those who agree with us, and shout out, yes, yes, you are right, I agree! … and yet we might learn more if we quietly listened to why people think the way they do.
We ALWAYS think we’re right. We search through something until we “solve” whatever question we perceive and find an answer – thus, landing on RIGHT. But that doesn’t mean it’s true. Or that it matters …at all.
RIGHT is insanely limiting, and it’s offensive in subtle ways that massively divide people from one another. We can literally spend EVERY DAY and every situation making ourselves right (and in turn, others wrong) and MISS things – important things.
Because when you land on right, you stop asking whatever the question was. The unsolved issue. The options. You’re right, and now you fight your corner, proving it. What a waste of time …and energy.
Instead, for 2020 we offer this: Stay OPEN.
Be able to be wrong.
Be MINDFUL and GRATEFUL of this beautiful life, the amazing people around you, and a kind and gracious Universe that prepares something bigger than “right” for you.
RIGHT (and wrong) are fleeting (at best) and limiting… but love… going for the honest and kind response in all circumstances? That creates immense loyalty and good will.
Because the bottom line is that your life journey is a powerful mission.
It may not always seem clear, but you’re on it, unrelentingly.
So love it all. Right or wrong.
Stay open.
Fail forward.
Pay attention. Pay it forward. And Carpe Diem.
… And thank you for letting us be part of your story.
Here’s to a happy and healthy 2020,
A solid message for 2020 and beyond… empathise, be compassionate and kind. There is always a reason why people form their viewpoints and opinions… we will obtain a much better balance in our own thinking if we paid attention and assimilated new information.
“While we are talking we are listening to what we already know… when we listen we may learn something new and… become more the wiser”.
